Most successful weapon cores

I'm just curious to learn what everyone's opinions on weapon cores are. What's your favorite to use and why? What do you use most frequently and why? Would you like to experiment with other cores, or are you generally happy with what you use and what you see others use?

I ordered more kitespar for

Troy's picture

I ordered more kitespar for those who want it. Hopefully it will arrive by/on Saturday.

I ordered 24-54in kite spar

Troy's picture

I ordered 24-54in kite spar shafts. I intend to keep 4 and I will give the rest for $5 a piece. They should be in by Saturday or else I can bring them the following week. I also noticed the website sells connectors. Many people have had best success with pvc when making odd shapes like axes. Im not sure how strong these are, but it may be worth a try to reduce weight in unique weapons.

Can you do another order? I

Jyotis Kadga's picture

Can you do another order? I know a bunch of people that want to get a hold of weapon cores up here. I would be willing to bet that more CC folk would like to get their paws on some too.

As soon as you, orkin, and

As soon as you, orkin, and serrin pay me for the last order.

hey brandon.. would you save me 2 or 3??

I'll take 2 of them, but I

I'll take 2 of them, but I won't be able to get up there this weekend. If you sell them to someone else, I'll survive. Otherwise give them to the next person who is heading down to the Frostlands and I'll pay them.

I use 1/4 inch Kite Spare.

I use 1/4 inch Kite Spare. Carbon Fiber. Slightly heavier then some of the golf shafts I've seen but I can cut it to the size I need and it is uniform thickness throughout.

Only draw back is the max length is about 48". After that and it is a bit too brittle and can break, especially vs any of the heavier hitters around. I've never had a problem with any of the weapons I've made that have been under 40" in length and I'm reusing shafts I've had since 1992.

I would experiment with better/lighter quality stuff but I never can seem to get my hands on golf shafts. If someone knows of a good shaft type, I may even consider buying one new. I figure if I can get it to last 10 years, it will pay for itself.

I'm currently on the looking for a Light Pole Arm Core. I dislike the 'power through' method many use in using them, and the best way to fight that is to have something extra light.

I'm placing an order tonight

I'm placing an order tonight for 20-25, Im taking 6 and I will sell the rest first to those who posted first. If I run out I can do another order.

Is there a place to buy kite

Redesta's picture

Is there a place to buy kite spar around here or does it have to be ordered?

Generally it has to be

Generally it has to be ordered, and 'group' rates often apply, I used Into the Wind last time I ordered, but as I said tha was a long time ago. It generlaly costs about $5-$7 a stick.

I would be interested in

Jyotis Kadga's picture

I would be interested in ordering some of the longer kitespar shafts. If anyone would like to go in on a group order, let me know.

I'm always interested in

Petrus's picture

I'm always interested in making new and exciting weapons, so count me in.

I'll probably be in on an

I'll probably be in on an order. I'm checking places out online. I've worked with Into The Wind Kits before, but I'm disappointed they use one picture for all their Carbon Fiber Tubing so I'll look around. I also noticed they don't have anything longer then 40".

If your looking yourself on line (something I recommend) you'll want to make sure it is at least 1/4 inch diameter for swords. If you get thinner then that it can get whippy, and since Carbon Fiber is fairly brittle 'whippy' pretty much means destine to break.

Just some things to think about, it has been a while since I've picked any up, and from what I've seen so far you can expect the price to be around 6 bucks. Not horrible 'if' you can find it long enough to make it worth going that rough. The longer shafts, so for pole arms look like they will be around $12, but I'm leery of how good they will be. Once we find a company/product we like, we'll probably want to get one peice initially and make sure it will suit our needs. Then get a bigger shipment with everyone piling in.

I decided to ask around on

Redesta's picture

I decided to ask around on e-sam and got some pretty useful answers

http://www.electricsamurai.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=12830

also the thread that is referenced is useful also. Haven't actually looked at prices for what they were talking about though.

Has anyone researched prices

Jyotis Kadga's picture

Has anyone researched prices for kitespar lately?

Where is the best place to order from?

This seems to be what we are

Redesta's picture

This seems to be what we are looking for:

http://www.kitebuilder.com/catalog/product_info.php/cPath/33_55/products...

It also comes up to 75", based on e-sam, it sounds like polearms have been made with kite spar sucessfully.

Wow! That's not a bad price

Jyotis Kadga's picture

Wow! That's not a bad price at all. Thanks for the awesome research, Redesta.

With a decent amount of tip padding on both ends, this pole could be useful for a short staff or a short polearm.

If we were to get enough people together for twenty of them it would be $85.80 + $14.00 (Shipping estimate). That would make it five bucks apiece.

I didn't see the 75" poles.

I'll take 2 of them as well.

I'll take 2 of them as well. I'm interesting more in the longer ones if possible, but I'm willing to take the shorter ones to help everyone save money. If you need money prior to ordering let me know and we'll make arrangement to get you the money.

Put me in for 2. I'll post

Put me in for 2. I'll post on the yahoo group too, since I know Serrin is interested.

I would be happy to order. I

Troy's picture

I would be happy to order. I would like maybe 4-6 for myself if people give me a list of what they want soon. Then we can get some stuff made for GNB.

I am not sure we can get

Jyotis Kadga's picture

I am not sure we can get them before GNB. Maybe. Order ASAP if that's the goal.

I would like to get the longer poles but the shipping jumps up tremendously at 60". The poles Redesta pointed out are the best deal due to the shipping.

Anyway, count me in for a few of them. Hopefully, the shipping estimates on their website are still accurate.

I agree with your take on

Jyotis Kadga's picture

I agree with your take on poles. I would like to get some really long, lightweight material to make a pole that is still effective after losing an arm. I've been told that small sailboat masts work well but I still thought they were a bit heavy - maybe I'm just a weakling though. Besides, they were very expensive.

As to golf club shafts, I've collected quite a few over time. I just check the local thrift stores. I wouldn't buy a new set, Boboko. You'll spend three times as much as you would for the thrift store shafts.

My favorite=Graphite golf

Jyotis Kadga's picture

My favorite=Graphite golf club shafts because they are light weight, very strong and the handle is already on them.

I almost got a dozen clubs for twenty bucks on Monday, but some old hag scooped 'em up seconds before me. Yeah, I thought of taking her down in the Goodwill parking lot.

Most frequently used=Graphite golf club shafts

Would I like to experiment with other cores??? Sounds too painful.

There are two downfalls to the golf club shafts. It is somewhat difficult to get a hold of them, and they are not very long.
